About

The island country of Fiji has a very long history going back some five thousand years. It has long been a stop-off point for traders, and over the years many settlers arrived from overseas. These factors have led to a rich history of tradition involved with Fijian life, and this can be seen in many of the nation’s cultural activities, such as dancing. The local cuisine is also specific to the islands, with most of the dishes being based on produce from the sea. These days, there are many hotels and resorts in Fiji, along with plenty of shops, both traditional and modern. Most people visit Fiji to spend time relaxing on the many beautiful beaches, but there are plenty of things to do besides bathe in the sun.

Things To Do

The local climate is classed as tropical marine, which means that the weather is hot all year, but thanks to its location, Fiji enjoys frequent breezes to help cool things down. Also, as English is the official language of the country, communicating with the friendly locals is easy. With its miles of clean beaches and the tropical jungle as a backdrop, Fiji has no trouble maintaining a reputation as one of the most romantic places on earth. There are many resorts that cater to couples only, but also a huge number with plenty of activities for kids.

Those who enjoy more physical activity than just lazing around on a beach with a cool drink can their hand at some of the sports local islanders love. Things like whitewater rafting and kayaking are common on the rivers that flow within the islands. There is also the option to skydive in tandem, giving visitors a great opportunity to see the islands from an angle that very few get to see.

Make sure you pay a visit to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant in Nadi. This garden used to belong to Raymond Burr, a world-famous actor. Covering over 20 hectares, it is full of orchids and other beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers. The lily pond is a big favorite with many of the tourists that visit the site.

The Fiji Museum in Suva is a great place for who hope to understand the long history of this country. Not only does it cover all of the latest turmoil in Fijian history, some of the artifacts date back over 3,500 years. Visiting the museum is a wonderful way to understand where the culture and traditions of the nation originated. If you’d prefer to play a game of golf, you can visit the Pearl Fiji Championship Golf Course and Country Club. Fiji is a perfect vacation destination whether you’re looking for a romantic vacation, a relaxing holiday, or something more active.
