About

The world is full of natural wonders produced by nature, but occasionally, man makes something that stands out above most other things. One of these is Las Vegas, often referred to as an oasis in the desert, it is actually more of a miracle. This is because summer temperatures often reach over 100F (37C), and the city only survives thanks to the water from Lake Meade, the largest man-made lake in the world. Las Vegas is known around the globe as being one of the biggest gambling areas around, and millions of tourists flock to The Strip every year. Even for those who do not like gambling, Vegas is an amazing place to visit. Each hotel has a specific theme, and is built to be unique. They are massive structures with thousands of rooms, and each one contains everything a vacationer needs to have a great time. The buzz of Vegas starts upon landing at the airport, and the anticipation of what is to come builds from then onwards. Regardless of which hotel is being used, fun is guaranteed. There is so much to see and do in the area, that regardless of how long a person stays, it will not be long enough. This is why many people return.

Key Facts

  • Officially known as the City of Las Vegas
  • The city first made an appearance in the valley in 1905, and was incorporated in 1911
  • The current population of the city is now over 2,000,000
  • It continues to grow year on year and now takes up a large proportion of the Las Vegas Valley
  • The Las Vegas Strip stretches for over 4 miles
  • 90% of all the water used in the valley is recycled via the wetlands, which then flows back into Lake Meade

Things To Do

When it comes to things-to-do in Vegas, the list is a very long one. Most people who attend the city tend to stay on or near The Strip. This is no surprise, as all of the casino's are located there. The best casino to visit is the Venetian. One whole floor of this amazing structure is dedicated to a model of Venice, with shops, canals and gondolas. Vegas now also has its own Ferris Wheel which gives amazing views of the valley, as does the observation deck at the top of the Stratosphere.

There are so many eating establishments, it is possible to visit a different one every day for years without having to go to the same one twice. Going off-Strip can save money for food, and there are some great places along Sahara Avenue, including a couple of excellent Asian buffets. For those who like a bargain, visit the Outlet Center just south of the airport.

For people who like to see a bit more of the area, hire a car and take a drive to Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, the Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, and Death Valley. No matter where in Las Vegas a person goes, it will be a memorable experience for the rest of their life.
