About

There are many cities around the world that attract millions of tourists, with London being in the top 5. One of the main reasons is that it is rich in history, with some of its architecture going back hundreds of years. It is also located in UK where the Industrial Revolution began in 1760, this led to the world we know today. Located around the River Thames, London has one of the most recognizable skylines in the world today. Until the 1980's the city was prone to tidal surge flooding, but thanks to the Thames Barrier, this is no longer a problem. The country's parliament is hosted in the Houses of Parliament, with many of the main government buildings being architectural masterpieces in the surrounding area.

Things To Do

One thing that the UK is famous for is its wild and varied weather. Snow has been known to fall in April, and extensive storms can occur in the summer. It can be freezing one week, and a heat wave the next, so take a range of clothing. The weather never puts people off flocking to the capital to see all of the historical locations though, the most popular of which being Buckingham Palace, where the Queen of England resides.

For those who are looking for something to eat, then there is no shortage of eating establishments. These range from local traditional Engligh pubs, to exotic restaurants supplying food from all over the world. The best way to view London is on one of the open deck tour buses, as these will ensure the visitor gets to see everything in comfort. For those who like to do it on foot, then the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, The Mall, St Pauls Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade and Trafalgar Square are a must see. A visit to the capital is not complete without a trip on the tube train. Shoppers need to visit the famous Harrod's, but dress well to get in.

For those who have more time on their hands to visit a few more places, then a few hours at the British Museum will be a wonderful experience, especially for families. People who like a bit of art should visit the National Gallery and Tate Modern. Madame Tussauds now exists around the world, but the one in London is classed as the main one. The Natural History Museum, Imperial War Museum and Science Museum are worth a look, but a whole day is required. Getting around is easy, as there are plenty of buses, trains and taxi's. London is somewhere that must be visited at least once in a person's life.
