About

Paris is known as the most romantic city in the world, partly due to the fact that the French language sounds sexy, and the Parisians are old romantics. The city was built on the banks of the Seine River, and has a history going back to 52BC. Over the last few hundred years, the amazing and beautiful buildings that Paris is well known for, have appeared and make Paris unique amongst cities around the world. Art lovers find Paris a wonderful experience, both for the architecture and its art galleries. The famous Champs-Élysées is where all of the main designer shops can be found for those who enjoy shopping. Most people recognize the The Arc de Triomphe, which was built to remember all those who died in the French Wars, such as the Napoleonic and the Revolution.

Things To Do

Paris can be visited at any time of the year, just remember that it can be cold during the winter months, but overall the weather is fine. Flying in means landing at the huge Charles de Gaulle International Airport, which is a bit aged compared to some others, but it is still clean and easy to navigate.

Hotels are plentiful, and it is important to stay near the center of Paris to save the hassle of commuting to the main tourist areas. Staying within a mile of the Eiffel Tower means that everything is within walking distance. This does mean that the hotels are more expensive, but for a romantic night and the convenience they are worth the money.

The one attraction that must be visited is the ancient Catacombs beneath the city. Not many tourists are aware of these, but it is a place of wonder, and contains the bones of around six million people. Guided tours are available so that people do not get lost. Not everyone enjoys visiting the dead, but after the Catacombs, a trip to the Père-Lachaise Cemetery will give pleasure in seeing the ornate gravestones, as well as the graves of Oscar Wilde and Frederic Chopin.

The Eiffel Tower is visited by everyone, but queues can be long, so get there early in the morning. Once in, there is no time limit on how long a person can stay. Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the best pieces of architecture a person will see in their life and was made famous by the film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. When it comes to eating, the city is filled to the brim with restaurants serving all types of food, but for the best around, try those offering traditional French Cuisine. Finish a good meal off with a casual stroll around the Louvre.
